The AAAI National Conferences on Artificial Intelligence
Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)

IAAI - Conferences on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence    -    Конференции по инновационным приложениям искусственного интеллекта - traditionally consist of case studies of deployed applications with measurable benefits whose value depends on the use of AI technology.
In addition, many IAAI conferences augment these case studies with papers and invited talks that address emerging areas of AI technology or applications.
IAAI is organized as an independent program within the AAAI National Conference, with schedules coordinated to allow attendees to move freely between IAAI and AAAI Conference sessions.
IAAI and the National Conference often jointly sponsor invited talks that fit the theme of both programs.

AGI

AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) -
Учредитель: AGI conferences организуются обществом the Artificial General Intelligence Society в кооперации с  the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

The annual Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) conferences are organized by the Artificial General Intelligence Society, in cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), each year since 2008 (plus an earlier AGI Workshop in 2006).

The original goal of the AI field was the construction of “thinking machines” – that is, computer systems with human-like general intelligence. Due to the difficulty of this task, for the last few decades the majority of AI researchers have focused on what has been called “narrow AI” – the production of AI systems displaying intelligence regarding specific, highly constrained tasks.

The AGI conference series is the only major conference series devoted wholly and specifically to the creation of AI systems possessing general intelligence at the human level and ultimately beyond. By gathering together active researchers in the field, for presentation of results and discussion of ideas, we accelerate our progress toward our common goal.

The AGI conference series has played, and continues to play, a significant role in this resurgence of research on artificial intelligence in the deeper, original sense of the term of "artificial intelligence". The conferences encourage interdisciplinary research based on different understandings of intelligence, and exploring different approaches.

AGI-2016
was hosted as a part of
HLAI-2016: The Joint Multi-Conference on Human-Level Artificial Intelligence, July 16-19, 2016, New York City, NY, USA.

In 2016, the 60th anniversary of the Dartmouth Conferences (1956) will take place, commemorating the events which effectively inaugurated the history of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cognitive systems research. Many of the original founders of AI as a research discipline shared the dream of (re-)creating high-level intelligence with computational means, i.e., achieving human-level AI – a goal which is (possibly with varied interpretations) still pursued by many researchers all around the world today.

HLAI 2016 is a joint effort between the major conferences and academic events explicitly targeting work towards the computational (re-)creation of human-level intelligence, i.e., human-level (or strong) Artificial Intelligence.

HLAI 2016 combines the 2016 editions of the conferences and workshops:
AGI-2016 AGI, the Conference Series on Artificial General Intelligence.
BICA-2016 BICA, the Annual International Conferences on Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures.
NeSy-2016 NeSy, the Workshop Series on Neural-Symbolic Learning and Reasoning.

AAAI Symposium: "Achieving Human-Level Intelligence via Integrated Systems and Research" in Washington, DC, USA, 2004

See Pei Wang - Artificial General Intelligence — A gentle introduction

A renaissance started

Roughly in the period of 2004 to 2007, calls for research on general-purpose systems returned, both inside and outside mainstream AI.
Anniversaries are good time to review the big picture of the field. In the following collections and events, many well-established AI researchers raised the topic of general-purpose and human-level intelligence:

Artificial General Intelligence (Искусственный Разум)

BICA 2016 The 7th Annual International Conference on Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures.
The 7th Annual Meeting of the BICA Society, July 16-19, 2016, New York, NY, USA

In 2016, the 60th anniversary of the Dartmouth Conferences (1956) will take place, commemorating the events which effectively inaugurated the history of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cognitive systems research. Many of the original founders of AI as a research discipline shared the dream of (re-)creating high-level intelligence with computational means, i.e., achieving human-level AI – a goal which is (possibly with varied interpretations) still pursued by many researchers all around the world today.

BICA 2016 will be hosted as a part of HLAI 2016: The Joint Multi-Conference on Human-Level Artificial Intelligence, July 16-19, 2016, NYC, NY, USA (at the New School Center for Transformative Media in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City, NY, USA).

BICS (Brain Inspired Cognitive Systems) International Conferences
Official Site: http://icsc.ab.ca/html/index.html

Brain Inspired Cognitive Systems Conference aims to bring together leading scientists and engineers who use analytic and synthetic methods both to understand the astonishing processing properties of biological systems and, specifically of the brain, and to exploit such knowledge to advance engineering methods to build artificial systems with higher levels of cognitive competence.

BICS is a meeting point of brain scientists and cognitive systems engineers where cross-domain ideas are fostered in the hope of getting emerging insights on the nature, operation and extractable capabilities of brains. This multiple approach is neccessary because the progressively more accurate data about the brain, is producing a growing need of a quantitative understanding and an associated capacity to manipulate this data and translate it into engineering applications rooted in sound theories.

Workshop
Interactive Task Learning (full-day workshop)
John Laird – University of Michigan
Kevin Gluck – U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory
Invited Presentations:
Michael Beetz (Robotics; University of Bremen)
Ken Forbus (Artificial Intelligence; Northwestern University)
Advances in Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, and Robotics are leading us to future autonomous systems that will have the cognitive and physical capabilities to perform a wide variety of tasks, with applications across science, health care, business, military, home, and entertainment. How will these robotic and agent systems learn the unanticipated and evolving complex tasks we want them to perform? Although many related areas of science and technology will play a role in answering this question, the focus of this workshop is on how cognitive modeling research can inform the quest for achieving interactive task learning – agents and robots acquiring new tasks through natural interactions with humans. What capabilities can we identify and model in humans that enable (and are potentially necessary for) interactive task learning, what are the most important relevant successes so far, and what are the most important research challenges that need to be addressed?

Tutorials
Computational Models and Simulation of Classical Conditioning (half-day tutorial)
Eduardo Alonso – School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering, City University London, UK
Esther Mondragon – Centre for Computational and Animal Learning Research Ltd., St Albans, UK
It is widely accepted that classical conditioning is at the basis of most learning phenomena and behavior and thus paramount that we understand well how its mechanisms have been modeled computationally.
This tutorial will focus on two influential implementations, namely Rescorla and Wagner’s model (RW) and Temporal Difference (TD, aka Reinforcement Learning). In the first hour we will present the fundamentals of classical conditioning and error-correction learning, and explain in more detail how these are instantiated in both trial-based (RW) and real-time (TD) representations. The next two hours will be dedicated to run simulations of the two models in specialized software, RW Simulator and TD Simulator respectively. The tutees will learn the basics of their functioning, how to input data (experimental designs, parameter values) and how to interpret output against a selected collection of experimental data as well as with regards to novel predictions.
Nengo, Neural Engineering, and Cognition (full-day tutorial)
Terry Stewart & Peter Blouw - University of Waterloo, Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience
This tutorial introduces the Neural Engineering Framework, a general-purpose method for implementing computational algorithms using realistic spiking neurons. It has been used to develop biologically realistic models of visual processing, motor control, planning, mental arithmetic, and analogy, as well as Spaun, the first large-scale brain simulation capable of performing multiple tasks. This tutorial covers the underlying theoretical framework while giving hands-on examples of building and running models using Nengo Simulator, our cross-platform open-source neural simulation software.
The newest version of Nengo has extensive support for running on different hardware such as GPUs, allowing for significantly larger neural models. These larger models allow for more complex cognitive models, including novel approaches to linguistic processing and complex rule following.

Symposiums:
- Unified Theories of Cognition: Newell’s Vision after 25 Years. Glenn Gunzelmann, Paul Rosenbloom, Dario Salvucci, & Marieke van Vugt.
- Neural Correlates of Cognitive Models. Marcel van Gerven, Sennay Ghebreab, Guy Hawkins, & Jelmer Borst.

Tutorials
ACT-R  architecture (Christian Lebiere and Dieter Wallach)
This tutorial will cover the fundamentals of the ACT-R architecture. ACT-R is a cognitive architecture based on experimental results andtheoretical assumptions about the acquisition, organization and application of human knowledge. It is a fully implemented simulation system that has been applied to tasks ranging from simple reaction time to complex air traffic control.
See also ACT-R Architectures.

COGENT modeling environment (Richard Cooper)
COGENT is a graphical environment for the rapid construction, development and evaluation of (primarily symbolic) models of cognitive processes. Construction of a model in COGENT involves first "sketching" the functional components of the model (using a graphical editor for drawing box and arrow diagrams), and then fleshing out the individual components by setting parameters or specifying production-like rules. The environment includes a set of predefined components, structured data and rule editors, facilities for graphing and tabulating data, and mechanisms for specifying and running computational experiments.
For more details of the COGENT system see the COGENT web site, at http://cogent.psyc.bbk.ac.uk

COGNET modeling environment. Building and Applying Cognitive Models in Real-Time, Multi-tasking Domains (Wayne Zachary, CHI Systems Inc., Lower Gwynedd, PA, USA)
This tutorial introduces participants to COGNET, an integrated cognitive/behavioral modeling method and toolset designed to facilitate the process of applying cognitive models to problems in system design, system operation, and human user performance/training support. The COGNET system has a particular focus on modeling human behavior and cognition in domains characterized by real-time transactions and/or multi-tasking demands on attention (e.g., human-computer interaction, complex system operation).
